Great conditions for skate deck. The skate deck at Columbia has been well loved over the past few days. The Robert L.B. There's a 7" snow base on the trails, with ski conditions very good to excellent! Enjoy. Smooth, firm tracks and crisp corduroy made for very enjoyable skiing. It's amazing how such a little change - from packed to loose snow - can make such a difference. Trail hours are open and lighted from 5am - 10pm. The skate deck was beginning to get pretty hard and glazed so I went over all of the trails with the teeth down on the Ginzu to chop up the surface a bit. B skis only because it’s thin. A fresh groom left a perfect skate deck -- flat, firm and fast with plenty of edge control. The PistenBully is out and we are laying classic track as well as a good comb on the skate lane. Went out on the yellow trails at night and everything on the outer loop but the path out to JJ had been groomed nicely and made for a great ski. Trails may be a bit soft yet before they have a chance to set up overnight. No icy spots whatsoever. The snow is cold making it a little slow, a small price to pay and a relief from the iced conditions prior to the snow. We skied counter-clockwise on the loop and went up that hill. A few leaves in the classic track in the woods. We received about 6 inches of new snow on Thursday. Classic tracks are as deep and firm as when they came forth from the groomer. Other than that, the classic track was deep and firm. Did the west loop this morning, and will do the east loop tomorrow. Tracks are worn and there are some icy or debris laden spots, but overall in good shape and a pleasant outing. With the wind, comes some added debris, but it's manageable. Then, I switched to my classic skis and skied the entire blue loop the the green loop to the shortcut back to the parking lot. Irondale trails have great coverage and respite from the wind. Tracks were straight and true but the wind had filled them in a bit in many places. I groomed all the skating lanes on all loops this morning. The lower temperatures and the additional snow has make the skiing as close to perfect as possible. The trails are very well marked and quite enjoyable. All 90 km are open and being groomed. It was a great morning with fresh snow! I skied all the loops in the southeast portion of system from #3 to the SE on both sides of County Road. There did appear to be fewer walkers and less walker damage, so maybe it is helping. Coverage is good considering corner washouts, a few easily avoidable bare or grass spots, leaves and middle age dad wipeouts (oh wait that was me) :). Excellent conditions this afternoon after the groomer had been out. There were no bare spots and the light snow (very light) overnight helped make conditions just perfect. It is in very good condition for skate skiing but a little soft. Touched up Red Granite and Pipeline West. Tracks tend to get smeared on up hill and downhill portions. If you are planning to ski Stoney, now would be a good time before the next snow. Freshened up the skate deck with three good loops. Skied this afternoon at about 3:30. Groomed/Re-Tracked 15k of the trails on the Eastern End of the Banadad Trail System: Lace Lake, Tall Pines, Tim Knopp and 2 km of Banadad Trail. The classic tracks are in fair to good condition with a few washouts here and there. With an endless supply of groomed trails, you can literally ski for hours and never repeat a trail or loop at ABR! Skiers have been skiing in tracks since 4” snowfall last Saturday. Only thing to note is that someone has built a large ice-mound/fire pit smack in the middle of the skating trail on the south side of Cedar lake! Isles some areas thin, newly groomed walking/cycling, 2 passes on skate deck (still many footprints and some tire tracks, groomed them out). Come and enjoy the honey hole of Nordic skiing! Violet Special kick wax provided great grip on the freshly groomed hills. Depending on where we measure, there was 10-12" of new snow to work with. Nicely groomed, but some areas had lots of debris on the trail. I was one of the first people out there this morning. Outside the lines = everything else. Everywhere is soft to very soft. Should be great skiing on these beautiful trails all week. Sledding hill, Snowshoe and walking trails are packed as well. Great job. Looks really good. Lovely snowy day on the fun narrow trails of Biskey Ponds. The upper loop is starting to show grass near some evergreen trees due to the sun. Mine were the first tracks in about three inches of new snow from Saturday/Sunday so it was a little slow going. Woodland deserves a lot of credit for getting the walkers to buy into the concept of separate but equal. The trail had been recently groomed. The multi-use section of blue from the falls to the bottom of the big hill is the only section I skied where I was thinking B skis would be a good idea, everything else coverage was great. Skiing conditions should be decent, but dress warmly. They have excellent snow cover and are a little soft but should set up with the cold weather. Trails are clear West of baker ave. Skied today from CP to W Brule Lake Rd and back. With additional snow we hope to report that tracks can be set but no attempts have been made to this point. I had a really nice ski last night on the trails and this morning on the North Loop which is right across the street from Graystone. Portable toilet has been delivered for your use. It's great to see so much snow at Snowflake and great grooming. Three inch compacted base. Snow was compliant later in the day with warmer temps. Classic lanes looked great as well. The skate deck was untouched, except for some herringbone marks on the uphills, from a few classic skiers who had been out this morning. But everything was well covered, with only a few spots with pine cones. Snow forecasted for Thursday into Friday with cold temps arriving on Friday. All trails are tilled and tracked, but expect the trails and tracks to get covered quickly as the latest system moves into the area. Groomer arrived in mini-Thiokol about 6 pm and transformed the trails in short order. Great day at Hickory, kudos to the groomers for making conditions skiable with such little snow. I packed, groomed and tracked all loops this morning. Trails are in great shape, and so is the lit sledding hill! Some leaves in the tracks when you go through the woods and they don’t set tracks in some small areas but all in all a very nice morning! All together, I'd rate it at least very good. At mid-morning I went to Hatchery Creek and skied north to Mosquito Brook and back. The trails in the woods and the Oak Savanna and Red Tail were beautiful and well covered. Classic easy loop in fast and good condition with minimal leaf debris on the trail. Low temperatures may set up the trail nicely overnight and be ready for a great weekend of skiing. No grooming, but classic track was well cut by previous skiers and we had a good time (with a Level 2 MYSL kid setting our pace). Great workout. Skied N Wirth today. We skied 90% of the trails. The main man-made loop was in good shape, pretty fast. Great skiing to be had at Hoffman Hills! Great stop on these fun, flowing, classic trails. Skate lane looked great too. I was amazed by how much there was, even off the course. The trail is in great shape, freshly groomed. There was some boot and bike tire wear from previous days that has now been groomed over, and most of the skate deck and classic tracks are in great condition. The tracks have been reset and it was great skiing. Excellent conditions with deep and fast tracks. The condition of the trail there was similar to what I observed in Lanesboro. The swamp loop is lumpy and small shrubby so we let that one go this time. All trails are set with two classic tracks. It's easy to avoid the gullies and the few rocks if you're watching carefully. The track was a minor bit slow where the snow was still powdery but lovely and nice. The lighted trail was groomed by the PB Sunday night. Some leafs and twigs in the woods. 34 degrees and sunny this afternoon. Best ski of the year for me. I did not feel any rocks or roots when grooming. There is also a minor amount of drifting snow in the open areas. This year that plan has worked out very well and has given us mostly great skiing even with the intermittent snows. Northern lights trail showed some wear but great skiing and pleasant sunset. I was happy to notice wider grooming on the green and yellow trails which gave room to get bigger skating strides in. The steeper uphills and downhills were appropriately single tracked. Wednesday should be some fantastic skiing, especially before the temps dip. Here's hoping for some more snow. The fields skied well, and with the additional grooming should be really nice with the exception of a few spots in the woods on the west field. A very thin coating of fine grained snow falling today. Definitely B ski conditions. Full coverage, well groomed and firm. With the wind and cold, some places will have snow drifts and other places probably will remain icy. Lots of skiers out enjoying the hills. Depends on weather tonight, no predictions coming from yours truly. Overall, good skiing. Lights were on for the downhill slopes, including in the back bowl, and there was a floodlight set up that lit up the entire south section by the zoo, so skiing after dark was no problem, at least not up until 7p.m. The skate deck was quite soft, hoping for some overnight firmness. :) As always, warm food and drink is a real treat at Mill Valley Market when done skiing! Kudos to the groomers. Quite a few oak leaves on the trail, but they didn't cause much trouble. Volunteers from the Friends of Copper Falls SP spent today pruning trails, they did some excellent work. From Fire Tower to Timber Trail it was not groomed recently contrary to what the Birkie web site indicated. A reminder if you are hiking the trail or see hikers, please be advised to stick to one side of the trail so the conditions stay favorable for all trail users. Skated Lake Loop to Red Pine Junction. The coating of snow from Sunday is being skied-in nicely and covers the base. 100% coverage, I did not see any bare spots. Thank-you volunteer groomers. All trails except Sally's Classic have been freshly groomed and tracked. There were many bootprints and snowshoe prints, but no grooming. Downsville to Y was groomed but no classic track was set. Wind blown in some areas. The multi-use trails at Chester Woods Park have been groomed/combed out today and classic track is set. Ski trails are all in excellent shape under the drifts. Snow-snow-snow. Classic tracks in good shape with no debris. Break out the warm clothes and green waxes! Full depth tracks and flat skate lane. Just a reminder that the trails are multi-use so there are walkers that use the park. Skied the outer loop of the East trails. A quiet, peaceful ski! No debris was reported. Classic tracks are shallow and in fair to good condition. It is expected to continue into the overnight hours and Friday morning. The main streets are well groomed, flat and firm. Very windy conditions had drifted lots of new snow off the fields, covering the trails on the big loop to the NE beyond the ball field along Hwy 19 and Spring Creek Rd. The skate lane was freshly groomed with lots of corduroy. Our sweet new Pisten Bully has these trails in excellent skiing condition. The main loop track was set on Monday and skating lane was groomed on Monday and Tueday evening. Dogs welcome. One low area (trail north of the lake on the north side of the gateway) was mostly bare ground, but the rest had pretty decent coverage. Groomers did a great job with what they had to work with. A bit more snow and another run with the groomer would help. We groomed all the classic only  this morning and all the combo trails - total of 90 k. We are now running the PistenBullys and the trail is skiing even better than it has been. Thank you to all the groomers who spend there time making Wisconsin a great place to live in the winter. Excellent conditions today at Carver on all of the loops for skate skiing with race skis - no risk of damage anywhere! Skiable but there are some challenges with leaf, twig and bark debris as well as a few icy sections and nearly bare sections. What a great January this has been for southeastern Wisconsin. Track is set. I suspect the wind blew most of the fresh snow off. Skied Ironwood - good classic tracks, except for occasional oak leaves, and a very small amount of drifting near the lake. Great to see so many skiers, and with all the trails open it never felt congested. A quality urban ski experience for all abilities and technique. Still some dirt patches in a few places. Snow was a little slow and soft, but it should set up nicely. I also packed the walking lane, but that may be drifted over already now too. I skate skied the entire trail system on freshly groomed trails. Three Rivers website is advising High School race Feb 4th at 1:00 PM. From Timber Trail to the Cable trailhead it was groomed but there were numerous dirt patches especially in the vicinity of the recent timber harvest activity. Should only improve. This is going to be a great weekend of skiing at the Willow, well worth some low temps. There is also some blowing snow filling in the track a little in some places but it was still deep enough to hold the skis. It was a dry snow so every thing is soft and will take time to setup. I met only 5 other parties of skiers in the 40 minutes I was on the trail. The tracks at getting a bit shallow and washed out in spots and icy too as there wasn't much base above the ice from a few weeks ago. We will be grooming to keep up with conditions; skiers may see grooming equipment out during the day as we capture the latest Lake Effect snow, so please exercise caution and give the groomers room. No classic tracks set. No classic tracks seen on Maples and Birches. Trails have been groomed since yesterday's snowfall and had full coverage with minimal amount of leaves or sticks. About 7”, but it is stopping. Mostly good, but some rocks and some gullies as noted. It was rock-hard and fairly narrow up the first hill. Our next scheduled grooming is early Thursday morning. We will continue to groom through the deep freeze later this week. Tobin Land Bridge is near complete! The classic tracks looked well set. Fun outing though, several trumpeter swans flew overhead to welcome us to area. I skated at Como this morning, and the trail was mostly in good shape. There was enough powder to control speed on some of the bigger hills. Too cold to groom the main Banadad today. The plan is to finish the rest of the trail tomorrow. The new segment of the East loop is a fantastic improvement to an already fun trail. Watch out for the wind. Track is shallow and many skiers enjoying so cornering is a little sloppy but soft and forgiving snow. Turned out fair. The trail held up pretty well. The trail was groomed and tracked after the area received about 3 inches of new snow. Fantastic conditions, freshly groomed and tracked. A few small areas of dirty snow but overall very good. Tried to preserve the classic track. Conditions were very good except for Bruce’s Roundabout which was excellent! No classic track set on purple trail for some reason. The skate deck trail system at Green Haven Golf Course was groomed today. Skied Lake Loop - Cut-thru and East Leg. Classic trails were in pretty good shape. For that reason, and with the temp at 32, we are “No Dogs” today. No classic tracks yet. A few spots where grass pokes thru, but generally excellent skiing on double-wide skate deck. Hoping to get out to finish grooming Saturday. The only problem spot was the hill with the Finish monument on JD Rivers - lots of ice around the top. Snow depth not a problem. The bottom of the tracks vary from renovated silky sugar snow to a mix of renovated crusty snow. Packed all trails today and tracked Big Pine, Big Pine Cutoff and Dragonfly Trails. Classic ski on the beginner trails at Sugarbush after a couple of inches of fresh powder this morning. I started out on my good skis but quickly changed to B skis and I’m glad I did. Skin skis are the absolute ticket right now or if you do wax, go warmer than the temp suggest or a Rex Power grip type wax is working quite nicely. Skied at about 1 pm, and the trails were in great shape, except for drifted-over tracks on the north side open area. Really nice out there. Tracks were last set on 01/19/2021 Base is approximately 6 inches. Snow was slow as to be expected with warm and soft conditions but coverage was great and all was rolled this morning. Morning grooming on all skate trails, renovating the silky sugar snow with the dusting. The expert section (photo attached) has some sawdust due to work to thin the woods. The skate deck was firm and freshly groomed and control on the downhills was about as good as it gets. There was enough snow on it we could possibly have skied it, carefully, to avoid a few exposed patches of gravel, but ultimately decided it was safer to retrace our steps. Gentle snow with no icy areas noted! Covid-cautious skiers will enjoy how remote/quiet these trails are. Currently there is about a 2.5" base in most places but we need more of the white stuff. Skied around Snelling Lake, and all of Pike Island. Snowing at noon. A few leaves here and there but not bad. More dirt patches not easily avoided on downhills under pines. Fatbike Trail: All trails have been groomed. The skate deck was lightly groomed this morning/early afternoon on most trails, lower and upper. What great trails. I skied the skate deck afterwards and it is soft. No grass was peaking through, in a few places the tracks were washed out. Much improved from Saturday, and should hold until the next snowfall midweek. All trails have been freshly groomed and tracked, except Sally's Classic, which will be re-tracked next week. We arrived around 9:45 am and the groomer pulled in right behind us. I would not encourage good skis due to the abundance of debris in some areas, as well as numerous spots where rocks were poking through the tracks, especially on the green/blue trails heading from the trail center to the interpretive center, so keep a lookout!
